In our homeschool:
Bible:I Can Study Jonah & Ruth Alone With God - King James Version (Alone With God Bible Studies)
We studied chapter 4 in the book of Jonah. Our memory verse was Jonah 4:11.
Character Building:Child's Book of Character Building: Growing Up in God's World - At Home, at School, at Play, Book 2
We learned all about responsibility this week…then we moved on to self-control.
Language Arts:Spell to Write and Read
We added a new slope letter, h, to our cursive work.
I began re-watching Hidden Secrets to Language Success with Wanda Sanseri. It’s basically the SWR seminar on DVD. I have been to the seminar in the past & I learned so much. I just realized that I need to start working on my master teacher’s log…which means I need a serious refresher course.
Developmental/Readiness Skills:Developing the Early Learner: Level 2
We worked on visual/figure ground, motor/maze, comprehension/language, and auditory/rhyming.
As I was explaining to Evan (working on the motor/maze worksheet) that the instructions say to look at the maze for 2 minutes before attempting to complete it he told me that he didn’t need any time and then proceeded to do it with complete ease. I was just a little surprised. I know that he’s good at mazes but I figured he’d need a little time to look at it. I guess I underestimated his ability on this one.

Math:Essential Math, Kindergarten Level B
We worked more on counting to 40. Just the other night, Evan counted to 100 with very little help. The thing that I like from this unit is that it helps him learn what the higher numbers look like as well as learning to write them. He was a little confused on one assignment because the instructions were to fill in the appropriate #. Here’s an example: _, 28, 29, _, 27. So the correct numbers would be 27, 28, 29, 28, 27. He was expecting to just count up, not backwards. We haven’t worked at all on counting backwards in the higher numbers. Once we finished that unit, we moved on to ordering. So far this is very easy for him…so far

Literature:Usborne Illustrated Classics for Boys (Illustrated Stories)
We read Moonfleet and Around the World in 80 days.
Owen read a little too
.

Other stuff:
I came up with a game (inspired by something I saw on Pinterest) that turned out to be pretty fun and kept Evan busy for quite a while. Evan named it Ball Roll. Owen had a little fun with it for a few minutes but he didn’t really have the technique down. Here’s what I did: I made a course using masking tape on my kitchen floor. I placed two pieces parallel to each other about 6 or so inches apart for a short distance (2-3 feet).

Then I did it again, only making them closer together and then one more time with one piece of tape.

The rules: Blow a pom-pom ball with a straw from one end to the other.

You can touch the tape on the sides but can’t go out of the track. Each time you do, the other person gets a point…and you have to start over at the beginning of that section. Once you get to the section with one piece of tape, the ball must touch the tape at all times. If it goes off, the above rules about points and starting at the beginning of the section apply.
Our course began the way I described it above, but it eventually grew and went around the whole kitchen. Evan loved the game so much that he called Jeff at work and challenged him to a game when he got home.
Here’s my source of inspiration. As you can see, I didn’t quite do it her way…but her way looks like fun too. Maybe we’ll try that next time.
We had some great weather this week so we spent some time outside. Here are some pics of our outdoor fun.
Jeff accidently ran over Evan's glasses on Monday...oops. Long story short, they were in his shirt pocket, he bent over to grab something and (unbeknowst to him) they slipped out. He got in the car and drove away (they were at Evan's swim lessons). When they got home I asked where his glasses were. Jeff retraced his steps, went back to the place he thought they were and low-and-behold, there they were...smooshed. So Evan has been without glasses pretty much the whole week. His new glasses are so cute though, I can't wait till they come in...and neither can he.
Here’s a cute little conversation I had with Evan:
Evan: (to me) You’re so cute.
Me: I am?
Evan: Mmm hmm…
Me: Well, thank you. (I would have told him he’s cute but he doesn’t like it when I say that to him
.)
Evan: …and funny.
Me: Thank you!
Evan: …and sweet like a darlin’.
Me: Like a darlin’?
Evan: Yes, indeed you are.
