In our homeschool:
Bible: I Can Study Esther Alone With God - King James Version (Alone With God Bible Studies)
We went through chapter 2 of the book of Esther.
Readiness Skills: Developing the Early Learner: Level 3
Comprehension: language, awareness, sequence, category
Visual: figure ground, memory
Motor: maze, hand-eye
Auditory: rhyming, memory

Math: Right Start Level A
Lesson 10- Writing Tally Marks & Patterning with Rectangles
Lesson 11- Sorting Rectangles & Translating Quantities
Science: The World God Made
The lessons this week were all about Day 2 of Creation.
Lesson 1 & 2- The Sky, the Firmament/God Divided the Waters
Lesson 3- What is Water
We did an activity with water. We put some water in a pitcher and tipped the pitcher to see what the water did. The lesson was about water being a liquid and the fact that it takes the shape of whatever holds it. Next, Evan poured water into ice cube trays and I had him guess what would happen to the water if it’s been in the freezer for a while. He guessed that it would turn in to ice.

Lesson 4- What is Water Vapor
After our lesson, we did another activity. This time, after getting the ice and observing what happened to the water, we put it in a pan and cooked it. Evan noticed that it turned back into water, then it turned into steam, which is water vapor.

Language Arts: Spell to Write and Read
We worked on writing Evan’s name. I found this great site on Pinterest that allows you to make your own handwriting practice worksheets in 3 different writing styles for free. I used the cursive since that’s what we’re working on. Some of the letters are different than SWR recommends so I just made the changes after I printed it out.

Classical Conversations:
Jeff & I went to an info. meeting for a local group for Classical Conversations and we decided to enroll Evan this fall. They will be on Cycle 1. If you’ve not heard of CC, it’s a group that gets together once a week. The parent and child attend the lessons that are led by a tutor. They use the classical method. The tutor doesn’t teach the subjects but they basically walk the parent and child through the week’s lessons and conduct science experiments, etc. Cycle 1 consists of the following:
History/Geography- World: Historical Empires, Peoples, and Countries (Ancient through Modern)
Science- Biology, Earth Science, Related Experiments and Projects
Timeline- Creation to Modern America
Art- Masters, Drawing
Music- Composers, Music Theory
English- Verbs, Prepositions
Latin- Noun Endings (Declensions)
Math- Multiplication Tables, Conversions, Geometric Formulas, Algebraic Laws
Bible Memory- Exodus 20 (10 Commandments)
This will all be a supplement to what we are already doing.
Other:
For Mother’s Day, we made these fun pot holders for Jeff’s mom. I got the idea from Pinterest. I’m not sharing the link for it because when I saw it, I just glanced quickly at it and forgot to repin it. I went back later to find it and couldn’t. I do not take credit for this idea. I did, however put my own twist on it as I did not remember exactly what I saw on the pin.

I just used fabric paint. We did the boys’ handprints on them and then I touched them up. The heart in the middle of the print on Evan’s was just a spot that ended up with out paint and I just filled it in and left some unpainted in the shape of a heart. Owen’s didn’t have a big enough space without paint so I just used the white metallic “puff” fabric paint (that I used to outline the prints and write) to make a heart in the middle of his print.
We had some beautiful weather this week so there was a lot of outside fun this week. We went to one of my favorite parks with some really good friends. I was a great time. I didn’t ask my friend if she was opposed to me posting pics of her and her son so out of respect for them, I didn’t post pics with them.
The boys had fun playing on a little splash pad in our back yard. I couldn’t find the sprinkler that I wanted to use but the boys didn’t seem to mind.

This is adorable! The pot holders are so cute. Visiting from the Homeschool Creations linkup.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great week! I love the potholders - that gives me a Christmas gift idea for my MIL, so thank you!
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures too. Evan looks so cute and serious working on his math and science.
I love the potholders as well! Great idea.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you have had quite a week! I love the pot holder idea - one of my favorite quotes of all time involves the idea that if you want a helping hand you should look at the end of each arm, because you have two! Thanks for sharing your week with us and for linking up with NOBH! Smiles -
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing. I hope you don't mind but I've featured your project on my blog. Come stop by and grab your "I've Been Featured" button and display it proudly. :)
